  • 1-2 teaspoonsoil or ghee (optional, for heating the rotis)

Filling

  • 2 cupssemi-dry Kadai Paneer curry
  • (see Kadai Paneer recipe for preparation)
  • 1 cupshredded cabbage
  • 1medium onion, thinly sliced into rings

Sauces & Seasoning

  • ¼ cupspicy green chutney
  • 2-3 tablespoonshot and sweet sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoonsmayo
  • 1-2 teaspoonskadai paneer masala
  • for garnishCilantro

Notes & Tips

    • Kathi rolls are a great way to transform leftover curries into a fun, handheld meal. Semi-dry fillings work best because they hold together inside the roti without making it soggy.
    • The shredded cabbage is not traditional in every version, but it adds a fresh crunch that balances the rich paneer filling.
    • Avoid overcooking the roti before assembling — a softer roti will roll easily and prevent cracking.
    • While this recipe uses Kadai Paneer, the same method works beautifully with other dry or semi-dry fillings like aloo, tofu, chana, or mixed vegetable curries.
    • For meal prep, keep the filling and toppings separate and assemble fresh when ready to eat.

Step by step

Method

  1. 01

Warm the rotis or chapatis lightly on a pan. Do not fully crisp them — keeping them soft makes them easier to wrap.

  2. 02

Spread a thin layer of spicy green chutney over the roti.

  3. 03

Add a layer of shredded cabbage for crunch.

  4. 04

Place the semi-dry kadai paneer filling in the center of the roti.

  5. 05

Add sliced onion rings on top.

  6. 06

Sprinkle a little extra kadai paneer masala for an additional burst of flavor.

  7. 07

Drizzle hot and sweet sauce or mayo based on your preference.

  8. 08

Add cilantro and a squeeze of lemon juice if desired.

  9. 09

Fold the sides inward, roll tightly, and serve warm.
